Your Coupeville Plumber

Coupeville sits on the south shore of Penn Cove in the middle of Whidbey Island, inside Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, which Congress created in 1978 as the first national historical reserve in the country. The town itself is compact, but the area people call Coupeville runs well beyond it: San de Fuca across the cove, the farms of Ebey's Prairie, Keystone and Fort Casey on Admiralty Inlet, Admirals Cove and the shore around Crockett Lake, and the roads south toward Greenbank. We serve all of it from our shop in Old Town Mukilteo, crossing to Clinton on the ferry, and every person we send is a licensed plumber on our own crew. Two things are worth knowing before you call. Inside the town limits most houses are on the Town of Coupeville's water and sewer, while outside them a house may be on the Town's water mains, a small shared system or its own well, almost always with a septic system. And because we come up on the ferry, we plan Central Whidbey work for days we are already on the island whenever we can.

Services we provide in Coupeville: water leak repair, faucet repair, toilet repair, water heaters, drain cleaning, sewer and drain line repair, water pressure and PRVs and emergency plumbing.

Services Offered in Coupeville

Water Line and Leak Repair

Leaks between the meter or the well and the house, located before anyone digs and repaired so the line is not left under strain. Our largest Coupeville job so far was exactly this.

Faucet Repair

Cartridges, handles and whole faucets, with the drains and the shutoffs under the sink checked at the same time.

Toilet Repair

Rebuilds, resets and replacements, flushed and checked before we leave, on town sewer or on septic.

Water Heater Services

Tank and tankless water heaters repaired or replaced, including the electric and propane units common on Central Whidbey, with the expansion tank set to the house pressure.

Drain and Sewer Line Repair

Slow drains, bellies in the line to the septic tank and camera inspection of the pipe between the house and the tank or the Town's sewer.

Real Work in Coupeville

Kim D.'s Water Service Leak, July 2026

In July 2026 Kim D. arranged a repair at a house south of Coupeville after a neighbor noticed water coming down the rock wall beside the water meter and shut the meter off. On the first visit Logan and Willie met the neighbor, walked the saturated ground, and confirmed with every fixture in the house turned off that the meter was still spinning, which put the leak on the house side of the meter. They called for utility locates before digging anything, and two days later they came back and opened the ground at the located spot. The leak was a PVC coupling on the service line that had cracked under tension. The line coming off the meter met the pipe running to the house at a sharp angle, and the poly had been partly kinked to make up the difference, so the coupling had been under strain ever since it was installed. Logan and Willie cut out the bad section and rebuilt it with a swing joint so the line could make the turn without stress, let the glue and the rings set, turned the water back on and checked every joint they had made. They watched the meter stay steady for thirty seconds before backfilling, then watched it again afterward, and Logan left Kim a message that the water was back on and the leak was fixed.

The coupling Logan and Willie cut out of the service line south of Coupeville. The crack runs right around the fitting, where the angle in the line had held it under strain.

“Amazing communication skills! Also, a photo of the technician was sent before each visit which gave us a high level of security. Thank you.”

A Pair of Bathroom Faucets East of Town

In September 2025 Logan looked at a double vanity at a house east of Coupeville where the hot handles on both widespread faucets had failed, one with a weak magnet and one whose magnet had come unglued, so the handles pulled straight off. The replacement handles that had been sent were a slightly different batch of the same finish and stood out against the old faucets, so he recommended replacing both faucets outright, and on the same visit he fitted a longer shower arm and replaced both lavatory P-traps. In October Connor and Logan came back and installed the new faucets and drains. Each sink was drained three times, then filled and left to sit with tissue paper wrapped around every drain joint, and not a drop showed on any of them.

Common Plumbing Issues in Coupeville Homes

The Historic Town and the Front Street Waterfront

Inside the town limits the Town of Coupeville provides water from its wells in town and from the Fort Casey well field, and it treats sewage for most homes at its own plant, with a few sites still on septic. Many of the houses in the historic district are restored Victorians, so their supply lines, shutoffs and drains are often a mix of materials from several eras, and we check what is actually in the wall before quoting.

Penn Cove and San de Fuca: Shoreline Lots on Septic

Around Penn Cove, outside the town's sewer, houses rely on septic systems, and the cove's watershed is one of the areas Island County treats as sensitive. A system with a pump or an alternative design there has to be inspected by a licensed maintenance provider. What we handle is the plumbing on the house side: the drain lines, the cleanouts and any pump that lifts waste to the tank.

Ebey's Prairie, Keystone and Admirals Cove: Wells, Shared Systems and Salt

South and west of town, water comes from the Town's out-of-town mains, from small Group A or Group B systems, or from private wells, and Island County's ICGeoMap shows which one serves a parcel. Wells near Ebey's Landing and Crockett Lake are among those the county's risk map rates at very high risk of seawater intrusion, which is one more reason to fix a leaking line quickly rather than let a pump run for it.

Licensed Plumbers, Not Contractors

Everyone we send to the island holds a plumbing license and works for us, so the crew that locates your leak is the crew that digs and repairs it.

Insured Above State Mandates

We carry more coverage than Washington requires, which lets us take on public buildings and businesses on Whidbey as well as homes.

A One-Year Guarantee

Every repair and installation is guaranteed for a full year, on the island the same as on the mainland.

Coupeville Plumbing FAQs

Is my house near Coupeville on town water, a well or a small water system?

Inside the town limits, and along some roads outside them, water comes from the Town of Coupeville's system, which draws on wells in town and at the Fort Casey well field. Farther out, houses are on private wells or small Group A or Group B systems, and Island County's ICGeoMap shows which one serves a parcel.

Water is surfacing near my meter outside town. Who should I call?

Call a plumber if the leak is on the house side of the meter, and the water system if it is at the meter or beyond it. With every fixture off, a meter that keeps turning means the leak is yours. South of Coupeville in July 2026, Logan and Willie confirmed exactly that before calling for locates.

How often does Island County want my septic system inspected?

Every three years for a conventional gravity system, and every year for a system with a pump or an alternative design such as a mound. Around Penn Cove, anything other than a gravity system has to be inspected by a licensed maintenance provider, and a system that is overdue must be inspected when the house is sold.

We are plumbers rather than a septic maintenance provider, so we do not perform those inspections. We work on the drain lines and pumps between the house and the tank.

Do I get a plumbing permit from the Town of Coupeville or from Island County?

It depends on which side of the town limits the house sits. Inside the Town of Coupeville, plumbing permits and code questions go through the Town's building official, while outside the limits they go through Island County's permit office, which is also in Coupeville. When a job needs a permit, we confirm the jurisdiction from the parcel first.

How far is Coupeville from your shop, and how do you schedule calls up there?

We cross from Mukilteo to Clinton on the ferry, about twenty minutes on the water, then drive close to thirty miles up the island to Coupeville. Because of that trip we book Central Whidbey work on days we are already on the island when we can, and we tell you up front how soon we can get there.
